Allen Mueller, CFA, MBA

Founder and Financial Planner

You could call me “an engineer turned finance nerd.” I spent the first several years of my career in engineering, but took a keen interest in finance after starting the MBA program at UT Dallas. That was when I pivoted and spent almost a decade in the corporate finance world.

During my time in corporate finance, I worked on projects ranging from analysis of multimillion dollar capital investment decisions to forecasting operating budgets for public companies, large and small.

The pay was great, I worked with smart people, and I was challenged.

…but something was missing.

I wasn’t helping anyone – just the corporate bottom line.

Around that same time, I was assisting my parents with their retirement planning. They had accumulated a nice portfolio, and they had questions like: How to invest for this next stage? How much could they safely withdraw without running out of money? How to coordinate portfolio withdrawals with other income sources like social security/pension/annuity? Oh, and by the way, how can this be pulled off tax-efficiently?

As I guided them through that process, I realized that I really enjoyed solving the retirement planning puzzle. I didn’t have to settle for being unfulfilled in my career. The highest and best use of my talents was to serve individuals and families – not corporations.

With that end in mind, I was motivated to become a CFA® Charterholder and begin serving families as a financial planner.

Disgusted with the state of the financial services industry, I wanted to be part of the solution rather than part of the problem. So, I founded 7 Saturdays Financial to provide financial planning and investment management at a transparent price. Building an independent firm from the ground up meant that I could avoid the issues like sales quotas and asset gathering that plague the big box firms.

My core focus is helping high-performers retire with confidence and make the most of their “7 Saturdays a week”.

When I’m not in a spreadsheet, you can probably find me at the gym or next to a campfire with some meat, a craft beer, and my wife and two daughters.

Operations and Client Support

I grew up with one clear lesson about money: there was never enough of it. From an early age, I learned about evictions, repossessions, and financial hardship—long before I could even fully understand the terms. I watched my mother make choices that reflected the constant struggle for resources. She would write checks she knew wouldn’t clear, and the field trip permission slip was an exercise in futility because there was no money for me to go. Too often, we had to choose between essentials like food or wants like lottery tickets and cigarettes, with the latter often taking priority.

At the time, it was frustrating to witness, but as I grew older, my career in financial services and the lessons I’ve learned in financial therapy helped me understand the deeper “whys” behind those choices. I came to realize that there was more to money management than simple numbers—it was often shaped by emotions, fears, and ingrained habits.

The financial struggles I faced growing up ultimately led me to a choice: I could repeat the same patterns and struggle throughout my life, or I could use my experiences to make smarter, more informed financial decisions. I chose the latter, and it set me on a path to financial services.

I stumbled into the industry during college, and nearly 15 years later, I am now a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER® and Certified Student Loan Professional (CSLP). My journey has taught me the power of financial knowledge, and I’m passionate about helping others navigate their own financial challenges. What I love most about what I do is the ability to empower people to make informed decisions, break free from financial stress, and create a brighter future for themselves.

Originally from Michigan, my family and I have made a home in beautiful East Tennessee, where we’re surrounded by the breathtaking mountains and water. We love spending time outdoors simply enjoying nature. I’m a proud mom to two active boys, and in my very limited free time, I am passionate about coffee, reading, exploring new places, and staying actively involved with the local Let Her Speak organization, which is committed to empowering women by amplifying their voices in entrepreneurship, leadership, finance, and more.
